Return of Barnes Parts

Howard Barnes was involved on many levels of motorcycle racing. Like many that excel, problem solving is a golden ticket. With track conditions changing, gear changing is a must to stay on top. Manufacturers didn't figure quick gearing changes in to their designs. Barnes came up with the ultimate solution to solve this problem. He developed a rear hub that accepted a spacer that had drive pins and a large threaded nut to hold the sprocket on along with a big wrench to get the job done. He also went a step above and made a disc brake system that mounted the same way. This would allow the wheel to be turned around quickly to allow you to use the fresh, unused side of the tire. (Flat trackers only turned left) This made even more sense.Barnes' design has often been imitated over the years, but still remains virtually the same design.
