The Legendary Pops Yoshimura
Posted by Peg Miller on Jan 31st 2025
When Gary Fisher got to Daytona Speedway in 1972, he had Pops Yoshimura by his side to tune for him. Riding the Krauss sponsored Honda CR750, Fisher also had his wife and his Dad, former racer Ed Fisher traveling with him. Being Daytona early in springtime, the weather was a bit chilly. Getting ready to go out on the track in practice, Gary's wife was cold so Gary gave her his jacket. Standing next to Gary was Pop Yoshimura, who then took his jacket off and gave it to Gary telling him "The rider must be warm". The jacket made it back to the trailer and then eventually back to Shunk, PA to the Fisher's dealership and then to Gary's house for years.
After reconnecting with Fisher here at our shop over ten years ago, Gary brought the jacket to us one day and said it was ours to display with all of the other great memorabilia here at Metro HQ. After many years on display here and a conversation with a good friend, the idea came to get the jacket back to Yoshimura. We are pleased to say that the family is very happy to have a wonderful piece of their history back to them.
